There was a time in history when it was standard to get dressed for dinner. As day faded into night, dresses would be pulled from their closets, ready to sparkle in the dinner table’s candlelight.
Though the daily ritual of changing for dinner and making it an affair of its own has long since passed, there are still those special occasions that call for black-tie attire. For a woman, that often means the fanciest of dresses. However, Ralph Lauren reimagined “the elegance of black-tie dressing as a powerful expression of modern femininity” in his Fall 2019 collection. Though dresses remained an option, suits were at the forefront.
For the modern woman ready to exhibit her beauty and strength without the confines of expectations or stereotypes, Ralph offered a range of black-tie ready options. Set in Ralph’s Club, the locale was transformed into an old Hollywood supper club with jet black decor, dazzling accents and tinkling jazz music.
The traditional black and white tuxedo combination from menswear made an appearance, complete with a black tie or bowtie, though altered to fit the female form.
In other looks, swinging trousers were paired with boldly colored blazers in colors like yellow, azure blue and crimson.
Tuxedo-like pieces such as the vest and cumberbund were worn as tops and accessories.
Similar to the Fall 2019 Chanel Couture collection, blazers were transformed into floor length dresses and jumpsuits, combining the masculine and feminine in a single look.
Whether you choose a gown or tuxedo for a fancy affair, you have the power to stop a room when wearing it with confidence.
