Dressed for Summer

Summer dress outfits

A world of travel, history, romance, flowers and water-color worthy pastels. This was the world offered by the Lela Rose Spring 2020 collection. In what has been a dreary start to spring and summer with the global pandemic and lockdowns, this Lela Rose collection reminds us of the beauty in the world around us.

The collection was full of dresses blooming with promise, including the 90s-style white button down dress with an oversized yellow rose pictured above. Designs like this one prove there is hope for a sunny day outdoors walking in the park, of traveling to picturesque destinations or enjoying a garden party with friends.

The collection offered an array of feminine dresses perfect for a Sunday at church, a wedding, a date night or brunch with the girls. The four primary looks fell into the categories of Grecian, Powerful, Structured and Romantic.

Several of the dresses were gauzy pillar-like silhouettes reminiscent of the ancient Greeks and Romans. The tiered fabrics with ruffles, or draped designs with flowing shoulders created magical silhouettes as seen in the yellow dress above.

Not in the mood for a dress or skirt? There were also new takes on the power suit with color blocked slacks paired with a bandeau top and blazer. The pink blazer and black bandeau would be the perfect combo to stay cool as summer heats up.

Silhouettes also included full-skirted creations with a fitted waist. This classic and feminine style remains just as stylish today as when it was popular in the 1950s. The fitted waist and pleating of the skirts offered a romantic option that could still be worn to the office. Dresses like the structured blue and pink design were made work-ready with a button down top featuring a collar.

Fabrics like white eyelet, printed cottons, sheer prints and those with floral details offered feminine and romantic dress options. With a jean jacket or cardigan, these romantic dresses can transition from casual Friday into weekend plans without sacrificing style.

The season is on the cusp of blooming. And with a little help from Lela Rose, we can see a glimmer of hope with a reminder to keep dreaming of all that is lovely.
