Disco Diva in the Office

It might be a new decade, but that doesn’t mean that fashion doesn’t still look to history for a bit of inspiration. 1970s flair made an evident appearance in the Kate Spade Fall 2019 collection. Velvet suits, flowing shirt dresses, snappy patchwork and cozy faux fur and shearling ..it’s enough to make “Saturday Night Fever” era John Travolta proud.

The power suit got a vintage reboot with luxe velvet fabrics and shimmering brocades. The silhouettes featured wide leg pants, not too different from bell bottoms worn by hippies and disco divas of the 1970s.

“It’s time to stop apologizing for who you are.
It’s time to become who you were made to be.”

These are the final words of Rachel Hollis in “Girl, Stop Apologizing.” Though used as a conclusion, they also serve as the perfect start to the journey she takes you on in the book.

Though the daily ritual of changing for dinner and making it an affair of its own has long since passed, there are still those special occasions that call for black-tie attire. For a woman, that often means the fanciest of dresses. However, Ralph Lauren reimagined “the elegance of black-tie dressing as a powerful expression of modern femininity” in his Fall 2019 collection. Though dresses remained an option, suits were at the forefront.
